Have you ever found yourself at a standstill in life? Like you’re pushing forward, but every step feels heavy? Maybe you’re questioning the path you’re on, wondering if you’re even heading in the right direction. Trust me, I’ve been there.

long road journey to purpose

In my own journey, there have been many times where I felt completely stuck—unsure of my next move, overwhelmed by uncertainty, and consumed by the fear of the unknown. It’s in those moments that I started to question if I even had a purpose. Why does it seem so hard to figure it out? Why does it feel like everyone else is walking confidently in their calling while I’m standing still?

But here’s something I’ve come to realize: Being stuck isn’t always a sign that you’re lost. Sometimes, it’s just part of the process. Sometimes, God allows us to pause because He’s preparing us for what’s next. He’s shaping us, refining us, and deepening our understanding of who we are and what we’re meant to do. The stillness is not wasted.

In those moments of feeling stuck, here are a few things I’ve learned:

  1. Purpose Isn’t a Straight Line The journey to recognizing your purpose is rarely a direct path. There will be twists, turns, and unexpected detours. You might feel like you’re going backward at times, but trust that every step is necessary. What looks like a setback is often a setup for something greater. God is always working, even when we can’t see it.

  2. It’s Okay to Not Have All the Answers We live in a world that glorifies certainty, but the truth is, you won’t always know the next step. And that’s okay. Embrace the uncertainty. It’s in those moments of confusion that faith is strengthened. Proverbs 3:5 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. Even when the way forward isn’t clear, we can trust that God is leading us.

  3. Purpose Evolves Sometimes, we get so caught up in finding “the one thing” we’re meant to do, but purpose isn’t always singular. It can evolve as we grow. What you feel called to do in one season might shift in another. And that’s not failure—it’s growth. Be open to the ways your purpose might change, and don’t be afraid to step into new roles and opportunities when the time comes.

  4. The Power of Stillness When we feel stuck, our first instinct is often to push harder, but there’s power in stillness. Sometimes, God is calling us to rest, to pause, to listen. In those quiet moments, He speaks to us. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.” When we stop striving, we make space for clarity and peace to enter.

  5. Your Purpose is Already Within You So often, we search for our purpose outside of ourselves, but the truth is, it’s already within us. The gifts, passions, and experiences you have are all pieces of the puzzle. Trust that God has placed everything you need inside of you. The journey is about uncovering, not chasing. You are already equipped.

So, if you’re feeling stuck today, know that you’re not alone. This moment is not the end, but rather a necessary pause in your journey. Allow yourself to feel it, reflect on it, and grow through it. Trust that God is preparing you for something bigger than you can imagine. And remember, the journey to finding your purpose is just as important as the purpose itself.
